I’ve recently read a book that manages to be both an enthralling story and fill in the gap between Newton and Einstein. Emilie du Chatelet is hardly a well known name, but she should be as familiar to us as the two aforementioned male scientists. This remarkable woman was both the great love of Voltaire’s life and one of the few scientists of her time who had read both Newton and Leibniz. I highly recommend David Bodanis’s book Passionate Minds to history buffs, romantics, and those with enquiring minds.
