I had a guest one day and he was rather surprised when, after offering to print out some information from him, I jumped up from my desk chair and moved well away from the desk at the first sound of the printer preparing for a print cycle. My actions became rather more understandable when two furry bodies careened into the room and bounded onto the spot on the desk just in front of the printer.

“Do they always do that?” he asked, shaking his head.

“Afraid so,” I replied. “They like to watch the printed paper come out.”

“Do they do anything else like that?”

“Well, they do like to watch the toilet flush.”

“What happens if the bathroom door is shut?”

“They stand outside and meow piteously.”

He left shaking his head over my putting up with my horrid cats.

I felt sorry for his lack of a sense of humor. Maybe the highlight of the day is watching the printed paper come out or the water swirl around. I think Dr. Johnson was right when he speculated on who was more amused by human cat interactions the human or the cat.

I remember the first time the kittens saw snow falling. They sat watching out the window for over an hour. That's a pretty good attention span.
